Residential Support Worker – Children’s Residential Service

36 to 48 hours per week
Shift pattern 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am depending on service needs
24/7 rota covering days, nights, weekends and bank holidays

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working in a transferable care or support role, or 1 to 2 years in a relevant setting
  • Previous experience supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties and complex needs is desirable
  • Ability to work within a 24/7 residential care environment
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to complete one
  • Ability to follow care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multi disciplinary team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • IT literate with ability to complete reports, records and documentation accurately
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare is desirable or willingness to work towards it
  • Driving licence is desirable but not essential

The Role

You will be supporting children and young people in a residential setting who may present with complex emotional and behavioural needs, trauma related behaviours and additional support requirements.

Core responsibilities include delivering consistent high quality care, following individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies while ensuring the young person’s voice is central to decision making.

You will be expected to actively model positive behaviour management approaches, support de escalation during challenging situations and maintain a safe, structured and nurturing environment.

Daily responsibilities include key working, updating records, completing handovers, supporting education attendance and achievement, promoting independence and life skills, and ensuring safeguarding standards are consistently met.

You will work closely with internal teams and external professionals including social workers, schools and health services to ensure joined up care planning and positive outcomes for young people.
