Atomic Talent has a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Safety Health and Environmental Advisor SHE to join a thriving engineering company providing bespoke equipment into the nuclear sector. Experience of working within the decommissioning sector , or a similar regulated industry is required along with NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, Experience with ISO 45001 and 14001

Main Purpose of Position

To provide competent Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) support to the business, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, company policies and ISO management systems.

Engage with and provide Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) support across all departments, contributing to the development of an effective SHE and Nuclear Safety culture that supports the successful delivery of the Business Plan, aligned to the company’s Vision, Mission and Values.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

SHE Compliance & Assurance

Provide competent SHE advice and guidance to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, company procedures and ISO management systems

Support the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the SHE management system across the business

Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring findings are addressed and closed out in a timely manner

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SHE legislation and industry best practice, applying this to support compliance and continuous improvement

Risk Management

Identify hazards and support the assessment and control of risks to people, plant, equipment and the environment

Provide SHE input into engineering and design activities, ensuring hazards are identified and risks are eliminated or reduced so far as is reasonably practicable (ALARP)

Monitor operational activities and intervene where standards are not met, including stopping work where necessary

Provide guidance to managers and supervisors on effective risk management and control implementation

Incident Management

Lead or support investigations into incidents, including accidents, near misses, RIDDOR events and environmental breaches

Identify root causes and ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented and tracked to completion

Analyse trends and provide insight to support continuous improvement in SHE performance

Operational Support & Engagement

  • Maintain a visible presence within operations, providing practical SHE support across manufacturing, projects and site activities
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and project teams to ensure SHE requirements are considered within the planning, design and delivery of work
  • Provide clear and pragmatic SHE advice during project execution, modifications and change activities, supporting teams to achieve safe outcomes
  • Engage collaboratively with employees, contractors and supply chain partners to ensure SHE standards are understood and consistently applied
  • Deliver inductions and oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance with agreed controls and expectations
  • Carry out SHE inspections, audits and observations, working with teams to address issues where standards are not met
  • Promote and maintain high standards of housekeeping in line with 5S principles through a supportive and collaborative approach
  • Build effective working relationships across the business, promoting a collaborative approach to managing SHE risks and improving performance

Culture, Communication & Training

  • Promote a positive and proactive SHE and Nuclear Safety culture across all areas of the business
  • Positively challenge behaviours and support the development of safe working practices at all levels
  • Deliver toolbox talks, briefings and SHE communications to support awareness and engagement
  • Actively contribute to SHE committees and safety forums, supporting effective workforce engagement and ensuring actions are tracked and followed through to completion

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the development, review and continuous improvement of SHE policies, procedures and processes
  • Maintain SHE records, reports and action tracking systems to support effective governance and assurance
  • Contribute to SHE performance reporting, KPIs and improvement plans
  • Support external submissions and initiatives (e.g. ROSPA awards) and wider business improvement activities

Additional Tasks

  • Carry out any other duties within the capability of the job holder, as reasonably requested in the interests of the Company
  • Work in accordance with policies, procedures and management systems
