Salary: £26,403 – £28,142 (Actual Salary)
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Caretaker to join our dedicated site team and help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and visitors.
Working under the direction of the School Facilities Manager, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the smooth day-to-day operation of the school. This is a varied, hands-on role that requires excellent practical skills, initiative, and a strong commitment to health, safety, and safeguarding.
About the Role
The School Caretaker will be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the school buildings and grounds, ensuring the site remains safe, secure, and well-presented at all times.
Duties will include:
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the school site
- Completing basic DIY, plumbing, decorating, carpentry, and repair work
- Opening and closing the school on a rota basis
- Conducting routine inspections and health & safety checks
- Supporting site security, including alarm call-outs and keyholder responsibilities
- Maintaining external areas, grounds, and litter control
- Assisting with cleaning standards and hygiene across the site
- Setting up rooms and furniture for assemblies, events, and lettings
- Supporting school lettings and occasional evening/weekend activities
- Maintaining and carrying out regular checks on school minibuses
- Driving the school minibus when required (a full clean driving licence is essential)
