Supply Desk is working closely with a supportive and nurturing school in Marlow to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, making it an incredibly rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about inclusion and pupil wellbeing.
This position would suit a resilient, empathetic, and proactive individual who can build strong relationships and provide consistent support to children who may face barriers to learning.
The RoleAs an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access learning. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create a structured, safe, and positive environment where pupils can thrive.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Help implement behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
- Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and coping skills
- Assist with delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities
- Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage confidence and participation
- Support pupils during times of dysregulation with a calm, consistent approach
- Promote positive behaviour and reinforce expectations
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals
- Monitor and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (desirable)
- Calm, patient, and resilient under pressure
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to de-escalate challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
- Consistent, positive, and proactive approach to behaviour support
- Able to work full-time in Marlow
- Background in youth work, care, mentoring, or support work
- Training in behaviour management (e.g. Team Teach)
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE, Teaching Assistant qualification)
