A large and inclusive primary school in Derby is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work across a range of year groups, providing both targeted and classroom-based support to pupils with a variety of special educational needs.
The role will involve supporting children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) on a 1:1 basis, as well as providing wider classroom support to promote positive learning, engagement, and behaviour throughout the school.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience working with children with SEND within a school or similar setting.
- Be confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and adapting support to meet individual needs.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of inclusive practice and child-centred support.
- Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- Support both the academic progress and emotional wellbeing of children.
- Remain calm, patient, and resilient when managing challenging situations.
- Be flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work across different year groups as required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with EHCPs.
- Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including communication and interaction needs, social and emotional difficulties, and learning needs.
- Assisting class teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning opportunities.
- Supporting positive behaviour strategies and helping pupils develop confidence and independence.
- Delivering interventions and small group support where required.
- Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to the implementation of support plans.
- Promoting a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
