Senior Automation Engineer (DevOps)

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Automation Tools Engineer to join a high-impact Automation Tools team on a contract basis. This is an opportunity to play a key role in building and scaling automation frameworks that drive reliability, performance, and efficiency across a complex hybrid infrastructure.
You’ll work closely with Engineering, DevOps, IT, and Operations teams to streamline deployment and configuration processes, enabling robust system management across large-scale environments.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks across a hybrid estate and compute clusters
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, and GitLab
- Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines to accelerate and improve deployment processes
- Troubleshoot infrastructure challenges and implement automated fixes to enhance stability
- Document systems, processes, and best practices
- Support system availability through participation in an on-call rota
- Continuously evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies
- Strong experience in infrastructure automation and configuration management
- Proven track record managing large-scale Linux environments
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Scripting expertise (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Experience working across hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud: AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with large-scale or multi-cluster environments
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Codex)
- Relevant certifications
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum
