A leading utilities and civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across water, wastewater, environmental, and transportation sectors across the UK. 

They are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineer with a strong heavy civils background to join a growing project delivery team working across the North West of England.

The Role

As Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of complex heavy civils and underground infrastructure projects. The role will involve managing and coordinating works associated with:

  • Reinforced concrete shaft and detention tank construction
  • Associated large diameter pipework installations
  • Temporary works coordination and management
  • Reinforced concrete structures and associated construction sequencing
  • Underground infrastructure works
  • Potential underground tunnelling and shaft construction activities
  • General heavy civils delivery and site management responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate engineering activities across major civil engineering projects.
  • Manage site engineering teams and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with specifications, drawings, and programme requirements.
  • Oversee setting out, surveying, and quality assurance processes.
  • Review technical drawings and resolve engineering challenges on site.
  • Support project planning, sequencing, and resource management.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, local authorities, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, site documentation, and progress updates.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and graduate staff.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience within heavy civils, utilities, underground infrastructure, or major construction projects.
  • Strong experience in reinforced concrete structures, shaft construction, underground works, or large diameter pipe installations.
  • Experience coordinating temporary works and managing construction sequencing.
  • Proven experience managing engineering activities on large-scale construction sites.
  • Excellent technical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and quality procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Full driving licence.
