Role Overview
Reporting to the Environmental Lead, this role forms part of the HSESQ (Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality) team, providing both technical support and practical guidance to project teams.
The position is primarily site-based in Highlands, with time split between the site office and active work sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of the environmental strategy and standards.
- Assist in delivering the Contract Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), ensuring environmental risks are identified and effectively managed.
- Provide guidance on environmental legislation, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
- Deliver environmental training and awareness across project teams.
- Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and site walkovers.
- Provide technical advice on key environmental areas such as: Peat management, Water management, Habitat and species protection, Environmental constraints
- Monitor and report environmental performance, including incident investigation and trend analysis.
- Manage and coordinate specialist environmental contractors (e.g. ecology and archaeology).
- Review RAMS and risk assessments to ensure environmental risks are appropriately controlled.
- Liaise closely with the Environmental Lead regarding site activities, risks, and mitigation measures.
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of environmental management within construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience within large-scale projects, ideally within Transmission & Distribution or renewables.
- Practical experience in site-based environmental monitoring and compliance.
- Ability to interpret environmental data and provide actionable insights.
Qualifications:
- Degree (or equivalent) in an environmental or related discipline (desirable).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar senior role (e.g. Environmental Adviser or ECoW).
- Professional membership of a relevant environmental body (desirable).
- Knowledge of UK and Scottish environmental legislation and consenting processes.
- Experience in environmental auditing, inspections, and reporting.
- Full UK driving licence.
