Role Overview

Reporting to the Environmental Lead, this role forms part of the HSESQ (Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality) team, providing both technical support and practical guidance to project teams.

The position is primarily site-based in Highlands, with time split between the site office and active work sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the environmental strategy and standards.
  • Assist in delivering the Contract Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), ensuring environmental risks are identified and effectively managed.
  • Provide guidance on environmental legislation, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Deliver environmental training and awareness across project teams.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and site walkovers.
  • Provide technical advice on key environmental areas such as: Peat management, Water management, Habitat and species protection, Environmental constraints
  • Monitor and report environmental performance, including incident investigation and trend analysis.
  • Manage and coordinate specialist environmental contractors (e.g. ecology and archaeology).
  • Review RAMS and risk assessments to ensure environmental risks are appropriately controlled.
  • Liaise closely with the Environmental Lead regarding site activities, risks, and mitigation measures.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of environmental management within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience within large-scale projects, ideally within Transmission & Distribution or renewables.
  • Practical experience in site-based environmental monitoring and compliance.
  • Ability to interpret environmental data and provide actionable insights.

Qualifications:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in an environmental or related discipline (desirable).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar senior role (e.g. Environmental Adviser or ECoW).
  • Professional membership of a relevant environmental body (desirable).
  • Knowledge of UK and Scottish environmental legislation and consenting processes.
  • Experience in environmental auditing, inspections, and reporting.
  • Full UK driving licence.
