Senior Fire Engineer (Chartered) -

Are you a seasoned fire engineer ready to take the lead on high-stakes external wall and façade projects?

In this newly created senior role, you won’t be pushing paper on routine audits, you’ll be shaping the safety of buildings from design through completion. Join a growing fire engineering team where your expertise matters: you’ll be the authority signing off façades and cladding systems on multi-storey projects, using the latest fire-safety regulations (PAS 9980, Building Safety Act, EWS1) to keep people safe. With complete flexibility and a top-tier package.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEWs) and EWS1 assessments on residential and mixed-use buildings (both existing and new build). Ensure compliance with PAS 9980, BS 9991/9999 and the latest Building Safety Act requirements.
  • Review architectural and façade design drawings (RIBA Stage 3–4) and coordinate technical solutions to control fire spread (cavity barriers, materials, firestopping). Provide expert input on fire strategy early in design.
  • Sign off completed façade and cladding work (RIBA Stage 5) for buildings over 18 m, stamping them safe. You’ll determine Option B1/B2 outcomes on EWS1 forms when combustible materials are found.
  • Drive project delivery: manage time on a large project mix, maintain utilisation and budgets. Mentor junior engineers and support sales inquiries with your technical credibility.

Requirements:

  • An Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) Engineer (Engineering Council) in fire safety, ideally through the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE). Chartership is a plus but accelerated candidates on track will be considered. You’ll personally prepare or oversee complex external wall reports requiring IEng/CEng sign-off.
  • Deep experience (typically 6+ years) in fire engineering consulting or in-house design, with proven work on external walls, cladding or façade systems. You know PAS 9980 methodology and have worked on EWS1 certification (especially Option B outcomes).
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK fire codes: Approved Document B (2019 A+D), BS 9991/9999, BS 7974 (fire safety engineering), etc. You’ve developed fire strategies and reports, and are comfortable reviewing evacuation, active/passive systems and remedial solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fire Engineering or a related field (MEng/MSc desirable). High standards of precision as your reports and advice are trusted by lenders, developers and landlords. Excellent communication so that you can explain complex risks in writing and in meetings.
  • Flexibility: You must be based in the UK, but you’ll spend most time remote. We even encourage extended remote work abroad when needed.

Role Specifics:

  • Impact & Growth: You’ll join a respected specialist team with a strong pipeline of external-wall projects on residential high-rises, social housing and retail/commercial buildings like flagship retail stores.
  • Flexibility: Only ~1 day/week in any office (your chosen location). Work is remote-first with some teammates even spending weeks working overseas with full support. Visa sponsorship can also be delivered for the best talent.
  • Excellent Compensation: Salaries far exceeding £100,000 (DOE) plus a performance bonus (up to 15%). Car allowance or company vehicle, competitive pension, private healthcare, and a gym membership. Investment in your professional development (paid memberships/CPD, support to achieve chartership/MIFireE).
  • Cutting-Edge Work: The Building Safety & Cladding agenda guarantees you’ll never be bored. You’ll use the newest tools (we encourage fire modelling like CFD, FDS if needed) and stay at the forefront of PAS 9980/EWS guidance. Your work literally helps unblock flat sales (EWS1 certifications) and gets unsafe cladding fixed.
