Summary We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a long-term project based out of Birchwood Park, Warrington. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong design experience, leadership capability, and expertise in working with plant and equipment. You’ll work in a hybrid capacity and play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions for a major programme.
Salary Hourly rate – dependent on experience
Location and Working Pattern Hybrid role based at Birchwood Park, Warrington. Full time, typically 3 days on-site and 2 days remote (subject to project needs). Occasional travel to suppliers, including some overseas visits, may be required.
Client Overview You’ll be supporting a major engineering project dedicated to delivering technically compliant and fully integrated solutions within a highly regulated industry sector.
Responsibilities
- Produce engineering design deliverables, including specifications, drawings, analyses, and verification documents, ensuring compliance with legal and functional requirements
- Deliver safe, operable, and integrated design solutions aligned with project specifications and plant configurations
- Prepare design outputs that are fully validated, verifiable, and fit for manufacture, construction, commissioning and operation
- Direct and support designers in delivering mechanical plant and equipment drawings and related documents
- Address and resolve technical queries related to manufacturing, inspection and testing, including production permits and concessions
- Prepare and check works test documentation and integrated test documentation for plant and machinery, liaising with CE&I engineers
- Support supplier engagement and oversee visits to resolve manufacturing/testing issues (including occasional overseas travel)
- Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault (Basis or Vault Pro)
- Strong understanding of BS 8888 (GPS ISO)
- Proven experience leading and supporting design delivery for mechanical plant and equipment
- Knowledge of installation, alignment and commissioning principles for plant, equipment, and machinery
- Experience delivering fit-for-purpose designs, including preparation of test documentation
- Ability to resolve technical issues and manage multi-disciplinary design interactions
- Eligibility to obtain nuclear site clearance
- Familiarity with safety cases and experience in nuclear environments
- Awareness of Nuclear Engineering Standards and Specifications
- Experience with DM desktop and record management systems
- Checking manufacturing drawings and Alpha glovebox containment design principles
- Knowledge of SoMSR requirements and legislation such as CDM, PUWER, LOLER
