Senior Planning Engineer

Our client, Taylor Woodrow, a trusted provider of infrastructure and civil engineering solutions, is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to play a key role in delivering a high-profile transmission upgrade programme. The project includes 69km of new overhead line, a new substation, and multiple extensions, forming a critical part of the UK’s energy infrastructure upgrade.
This is an opportunity to work on a major, complex programme where you will influence delivery strategy, drive performance, and support decision-making at project level.
The Role
You will be responsible for developing and managing the project programme from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements and delivery objectives.
Working closely with project teams, stakeholders, and supply chain partners, you’ll play a central role in ensuring the programme reflects reality, identifies risk, and drives performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed, fully resourced programmes in Primavera P6
- Ensure programmes align with contractual requirements and client procedures
- Collaborate with delivery teams to validate sequencing, methodology and assumptions
- Manage programme interfaces across project partners and attend coordination meetings
- Support the preparation of programme narratives and submissions
- Provide programme insights to support project decision-making
- Produce cost and resource-loaded programmes for forecasting and planning
- Identify and analyse delay events in line with contract requirements
- Carry out what-if scenario analysis
- Monitor and report on progress using tools such as Earned Value Analysis
- Identify risks and opportunities and incorporate these into programme strategies
- Support commercial and procurement teams with planning input
- Mentor and support junior planners
About You
- Significant experience as a Planner/Senior Planner on major infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery lifecycle
- Proven ability to develop full lifecycle programmes independently
- Advanced Primavera P6 capability
- Experience leading collaborative planning workshops
- Strong understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts
- Experience in delay analysis and programme scenario modelling
- Strong reporting and performance analysis experience (e.g. Earned Value)
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills
