A day in the life of a Murphy Skills, Employment & Education Advisor

Education & Community Engagement

  • Create and deliver engaging sessions for primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across Kent and Essex, promoting the Lower Thames Crossing, the construction sector and essential employability skills.
  • Attend school-led events—including careers fairs, mock interviews, workshops and assemblies—to represent the project and inspire young people.
  • Organise and host site visits for local students, teachers and community groups to provide first-hand insight into the project. 
  • Host and coordinate work experience placements for local students, ensuring meaningful insight into the construction and infrastructure industry.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, colleges, training providers, employment brokerages and community organisations, demonstrating sensitivity to differing community perspectives on the project.
  • Attend external events and represent the organisation professionally while networking with key partners and stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with joint venture partners (Balfour Beatty, Skanska) to ensure consistent and aligned delivery across the programme.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, brief and support project volunteers to participate in education and skills events.

Internal Collaboration

  • Act as a key and active member of the wider People & Culture Team, contributing to shared goals and supporting the delivery of the project’s social value commitments.
