Technical Workplace Designer Location: Reading

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 DOE

A growing workplace design and fit-out specialist is seeking an experienced Technical Workplace Designer to join its team based in Reading.

The successful candidate will play a key role in transforming workplace design concepts into fully coordinated, buildable construction packages. Acting as the bridge between creative design and project delivery, they will ensure that all technical aspects of a project are coordinated effectively before construction commences.

Working closely with pre-construction teams, consultants, and site teams, the Technical Workplace Designer will be responsible for producing detailed technical drawings, coordinating building services, and supporting projects through to successful completion.

This is a fully office-based position, offering the opportunity to work within a collaborative and highly experienced team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce comprehensive technical drawing packages including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, power and data layouts, elevations, and bespoke joinery details.
  • Coordinate workplace designs with M&E, HVAC, and other building services to ensure technical integration and buildability.
  • Collaborate with the pre-construction team to refine technical details, respond to tender queries, and ensure alignment with project budgets and procurement programmes.
  • Liaise with Approved Inspectors, fire consultants, and specialist consultants to support Building Control compliance and approvals.
  • Conduct site surveys and attend project meetings to ensure design intent is maintained throughout project delivery.
  • Resolve technical issues arising during construction and provide practical solutions where required.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of CAD management, drawing accuracy, and document control.
Desirable Additional Skills Candidates with experience in the following areas will be viewed favourably:
  • Workplace space planning and concept layout development.
  • Material, finish, and furniture specification.
  • Workplace design detailing and aesthetic refinement.
  • Production of 3D visualisations, SketchUp models, or presentation materials.
  • Collaboration with external visualisation agencies.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within workplace design, commercial interiors, or fit-out projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience using Revit would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of partition systems, acoustic solutions, M&E coordination, and bespoke joinery construction.
  • Understanding of UK Building Regulations and workplace compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Strong workplace space-planning capability and understanding of workplace ergonomics.

Package
  • Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 depending on experience.
  • Reading-based office location.
  • Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00.
  • Flexibility around core hours for personal commitments.
  • 20 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
