Overview

Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Technical Services Manager to lead the operations and maintenance function across a government contract. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, while maintaining high standards of compliance, safety, and client satisfaction.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong technical expertise within a building services environment. The successful candidate will oversee a team, manage contractors, and drive continuous improvement through best practice and innovation, ensuring all technical services are delivered effectively and in line with organisational standards.

Job Description

We are looking for a proactive and technically capable leader who can plan, assign, and direct work activities while responding effectively to operational issues and client concerns. The role will focus on delivering robust maintenance strategies, ensuring compliance with Safe Systems of Work, and maintaining operational excellence across all service areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical service delivery across accounts, ensuring operational excellence, compliance, and high levels of client satisfaction
  • Act as the primary escalation point for technical issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution
  • Drive operational efficiency through implementation of standard procedures, best practices, and innovative solutions
  • Assign and manage work tickets, ensuring completion of planned preventative maintenance and reactive tasks
  • Oversee Appointed Persons duties and ensure adherence to Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date operations and maintenance documentation, including drawings and manuals
  • Review and update SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs to reflect current operational requirements
  • Coordinate contractors and vendors, ensuring safe access, effective supervision, and successful delivery of works

Person Specification

  • Proven hands-on experience in technical services within a building services environment
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience managing HV/LV systems in regulated environments
  • Recognised apprenticeship with relevant qualifications (HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds) including formal HV/LV training
  • Good understanding of critical engineering systems, including specialist ventilation, decontamination, and medical gases
  • Ability to work towards or undertake Authorised Engineer responsibilities for HV/LV systems
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, including experience in supervision, training, and appraisals
  • Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel as required
