Are you an experienced PMLD Teaching Assistant with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities?
Aspire People are currently recruiting for an experienced 1:1 PMLD Teaching Assistant to work within SEN schools in Rochdale, supporting pupils across primary and secondary age groups.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who understands the needs of children with PMLD and is confident building a strong, professional relationship with an individual pupil.
The Role
As a 1:1 PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with one child, providing consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
You will be responsible for:
* Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
* Building a positive, trusting and professional relationship with the pupil.
* Developing a strong understanding of the child's individual needs, communication methods and preferences.
* Understanding the child's triggers, behaviours and responses and knowing how to support them appropriately.
* Supporting the pupil's learning, development and engagement in school activities.
* Providing emotional, physical and practical support where required.
* Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
* Following individual support plans and school procedures.
* Supporting the child's independence, dignity, wellbeing and safety.
* Providing consistency and reassurance throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has previous, hands-on experience working with children or young people with PMLD.
Suitable candidates may have experience working in:
* SEN schools.
* Residential children's care homes.
* Specialist education settings.
* Children's care or support services.
* Other environments supporting children with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
You must be confident supporting children with complex needs and understand that every pupil has individual communication, behavioural, sensory and care requirements.
Most importantly, you will need to be patient, compassionate, observant and consistent, with the ability to build a strong professional relationship with the child you are supporting.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
* Previous experience working specifically with children or young people with PMLD.
* Previous experience working within an SEN school, residential children's home or similar specialist setting.
* Experience supporting children with complex needs.
* The ability to understand and respond appropriately to individual triggers and behaviours.
* A DBS on the Update Service.
* References covering your most recent 2 years of employment/experience.
* Availability to work 5 days per week, Monday to Friday.
* A genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
