1:1 SEND & Behaviour Support Assistant

North Manchester | Year 6 | Full-Time & Long-Term Opportunity | Aspire People

Aspire People are currently recruiting for an experienced Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Support Assistant to support two Year 6 pupils at a partnered primary school in North Manchester.

The role will involve working with both pupils on a 1:1 basis, with the school day divided between them. Each pupil has different needs, so the successful candidate will need to be flexible, observant, and confident adapting their support style.

This position would suit someone who is passionate about SEND, behaviour support, and helping children develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and emotionally.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

* Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
* Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage frustration
* Supporting classroom engagement and access to learning
* Encouraging positive behaviour and appropriate boundaries
* Supporting pupils with routines, transitions, and expectations
* Developing pupils' confidence, independence, and social skills
* Helping pupils build positive relationships with adults and peers
* Communicating effectively with teachers and school staff
* Maintaining a consistent and nurturing approach

About the Pupils

One pupil can experience challenging behaviour, including leaving the classroom and struggling to remain engaged. They will require a patient and resilient adult who can establish trust, maintain clear expectations, and respond calmly to difficult situations.

The second pupil is generally sociable and personable but can become frustrated or emotionally heightened. They will benefit from a supportive adult who can recognise when they need help, provide reassurance, and support them to reset and return to learning.

Relationship-building will be central to the role. Both pupils respond well to positive interactions and shared interests, so this position may particularly suit someone with a sporty or active background. Experience as a sports coach, youth worker, mentor, behaviour support worker, or someone who enjoys football and similar activities would be highly relevant.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has experience or transferable skills in:

* SEND and SEMH support
* Challenging behaviour
* Emotional regulation
* Behaviour intervention
* 1:1 support
* Youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, or working with children and young people

You will be:

* Calm and patient
* Resilient and consistent
* Confident building trusting relationships
* Comfortable supporting challenging behaviour
* Able to maintain boundaries and expectations
* Proactive and adaptable
* Confident working independently
* A strong communicator
* Passionate about inclusion and pupil development

School-based experience would be highly desirable, although candidates with strong relevant experience outside of education will also be considered.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to two pupils and support their progress throughout the academic year.

Please apply with your up-to-date CV and a brief outline of your relevant experience.
