Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced English SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Leominster.

The successful tutor will have strong English subject knowledge and experience supporting children and young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace, resources and explanations to meet individual needs, while helping the learner build confidence and make positive academic progress.

Experience supporting learners who have barriers to accessing mainstream education, including those accessing EOTAS or Alternative Provision, would be highly desirable. Experience supporting anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would also be beneficial.

The ability to create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment will be essential.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.



The role may involve:

  • Providing personalised one-to-one English tuition to a young person with SEND.
  • Supporting learners across the primary or secondary English curriculum, depending on experience.
  • Supporting English Language and/or English Literature at secondary level where appropriate.
  • Developing skills in reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, grammar and communication.
  • Adapting lessons, resources and teaching approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Breaking complex topics and tasks into manageable and accessible steps.
  • Identifying gaps in learning and providing targeted support.
  • Supporting a learner who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
  • Supporting learners who may have barriers to accessing mainstream education, including EOTAS or Alternative Provision.
  • Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
  • Using engaging activities and the learner's interests to encourage participation.
  • Supporting learners who may display challenging behaviour where appropriate.
  • Developing confidence, independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Supporting exam preparation and revision where appropriate.
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's support.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.


Essential requirements:

  • Strong English subject knowledge.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring English.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience providing one-to-one educational support.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual SEND needs.
  • Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to accessing mainstream education.
  • Experience in a school, tutoring, Alternative Provision, EOTAS or similar educational setting.
  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
  • A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.
  • Experience supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.
  • Reliable and consistent approach to work.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
  • The right to work in the UK.
