I'm currently working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the local area to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position.
This rewarding role will be based primarily within the Early Years setting, supporting a young pupil with complex additional needs on a 1:1 basis. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the child remains safe, engaged and supported throughout the school day while helping them access learning and social opportunities.
Your new role
You will be responsible for providing consistent, nurturing support to a child with high-level SEND needs. While the pupil has some verbal communication and can repeat words, they experience significant communication difficulties and require a patient and understanding adult to support their daily routines.A large part of the role will involve:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Supporting the pupil within a nurturing Early Years environment.
- Maintaining clear routines and structure to help the child feel secure.
- Ensuring the child's safety and wellbeing at all times.
- Supporting communication, interaction and engagement in learning activities.
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team.
- Promoting positive relationships and encouraging independence where appropriate.
- Assisting with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day.
The pupil is toilet trained and benefits from a calm, consistent approach from trusted adults.
What you'll need to succeed
We are looking for an individual who is:
- Patient, caring and resilient.
- Passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
- Experienced in working with children with SEND, particularly those with communication and interaction difficulties.
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships.
- Calm under pressure and confident in managing challenging situations sensitively.
- Flexible and proactive in their approach.
- Committed to providing a safe, nurturing learning environment.
Previous experience in Early Years, nurture provision, autism support, SEND settings or care-based roles would be highly advantageous.
