3.5 Tonne Removals Driver

Location: Middlesbrough
Contract: Temporary to permanent
Hours: Flexible and variable
Pay: £13 per hour. Hourly rate while working through the agency, moving to a fixed salary once permanent after 12 weeks.

The opportunity

Westray Recruitment Group is looking for a reliable and physically fit .ktr to join a well-established removals business based in Middlesbrough.

This is a genuine temporary-to-permanent opportunity offering excellent long-term prospects. The role would suit someone who enjoys variety, working with customers and being out on the road rather than following the same routine each day.

Working hours

There is no fixed shift pattern, so flexibility is essential. The number of hours worked may vary depending on customer demand, for example, you may work 15 hours one week and 40 or more the next. However, working hours generally balance out across the month.

Some jobs may finish later than expected, particularly when customers are waiting to receive the keys to their new property. Applicants must therefore be comfortable working beyond standard hours when required.

While employed through the agency, you will be paid for every hour worked. Once permanently employed, the role will move to a fixed monthly salary, providing consistent earnings regardless of weekly variations in hours.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Driving a 3.5 tonne removals vehicle safely and professionally
• Travelling between customers’ homes and other locations
• Loading and unloading furniture, boxes and personal belongings
• Handling customers’ possessions carefully and respectfully
• Protecting items against damage while loading and transporting them
• Working closely with other members of the removals team
• Delivering a friendly and professional service to customers
• Completing vehicle checks and reporting any concerns
• Following manual-handling and health and safety procedures

Most removals will take place locally. However, occasional travel to other parts of the country will be required. Where an overnight stay is necessary, hotel accommodation will be fully paid for. You will also be paid from the time you leave the Middlesbrough site until you arrive at the hotel.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will:

• Hold a full UK driving licence suitable for driving a 3.5 tonne vehicle
• Have no more than six penalty points, subject to the company’s insurance requirements
• Meet all relevant driver-insurance eligibility criteria
• Be physically capable of lifting and moving furniture and household items
• Be flexible regarding working hours, late finishes and occasional overnight stays
• Be reliable, punctual and comfortable working as part of a team
• Have a polite and professional approach when entering customers’ homes
• Be careful and respectful when handling personal belongings
• Be looking for a stable, long-term position

Previous removals, delivery or multidrop driving experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
