Are you a graduate or experienced education professional looking to make a real difference to young people's academic progress?

Smile Education are currently recruiting for an Academic Mentor to join a secondary school in Wolverhampton, supporting students both within the classroom and through targeted interventions.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and enjoys working with young people. Graduates, including those with STEM backgrounds, are particularly encouraged to apply, although applications are welcomed from a range of academic backgrounds.

The Role
As an Academic Mentor, you will work alongside teaching staff to provide additional support to students, helping them to build confidence, improve their understanding and make progress.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting students within the classroom
  • Delivering targeted interventions to individuals and small groups
  • Providing additional support to students who may need help with their learning
  • Helping students develop confidence, independence and positive learning habits
  • Supporting pupils across different abilities and needs
  • Working closely with classroom teachers and pastoral staff
  • Creating a positive and encouraging learning environment
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has a degree or relevant experience working with young people
  • Is passionate about supporting students to achieve their potential
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can build positive relationships with young people
  • Is confident supporting students on a one-to-one and small-group basis
  • Is reliable, proactive and enthusiastic
  • Has an interest in developing a career within education
Graduates from STEM subjects such as Maths, Science, English and Computing are particularly encouraged to apply, but the role is open to candidates from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds.
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential — this could be an excellent first step into a career in education for the right candidate.
