Accountant | Leatherhead | £48,000 - £55,000 plus benefits and hybrid working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accountant to join a successful privately owned Group with a growing portfolio of businesses across the UK and Europe, including operations in Belgium, Poland and Germany.

Based at the Group's Head Office in Leatherhead, you will join a small finance team of around ten people and work across three of the Group's businesses. This is a broad role, with a key focus on international VAT and the preparation of complex quarterly VAT returns across several European jurisdictions.

The businesses operate in a high-volume, multi-currency environment, with products sourced and imported from a number of countries. You will need to be comfortable working with international transactions and differing VAT and reporting requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing quarterly VAT returns across a number of European jurisdictions and ensuring local reporting requirements and deadlines are met
• Managing high volumes of transactions across different currencies
• Ensuring the correct VAT treatment of imported products and cross-border transactions
• Helping to maintain appropriate financial governance and controls
• Supporting the wider accounting requirements of three businesses within the Group
• Assisting with statutory reporting
• Supporting payroll for the UK team
• Working with Xero and other cloud-based accounting systems
• Liaising with colleagues and external advisers
• Supporting the finance team as further businesses are acquired and integrated into the Group

We would be particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have gained international VAT experience within an accountancy practice, perhaps within an outsourcing or business services team. Equally, you may already be working in industry within a high-volume international finance environment and be looking for a broader role with plenty of scope to develop.

The role is open to ACCA, CIMA, ACA, ICAS or equivalent qualified accountants, as well as active studiers with relevant practical experience.

Language skills are important, with preference given to candidates who speak Polish, Flemish or German in addition to fluent English.

As a newly created position, there is real scope for the successful candidate to make the role their own and see their responsibilities develop as the Group continues to grow.

The salary range of £48,000 - £55,000 has been set by Fletcher George, with the level offered depending on relevant experience, qualification and level of study.  Commutable from Epsom, Dorking, Esher, Guildford and surrounding areas.
