Accounting Technician - 12 Months Fixed Term in Cheltenham

Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a leading, established and growing property group to recruit a dynamic & experienced Accounting Technician for their Cheltenham, Gloucestershire office. A 12-month fixed-term contract within a varied role providing financial support to the accounting function, you will ensure accurate processing of transactions including payments, recharges, intercompany, purchase ledger, payroll, along with maintaining effective communication with operational teams to ensure timely financial information. The position can offer a split of remote/office hybrid working and the opportunity to really add value to a close-knit finance function.

Your new role

Your key duties will include processing payments in accordance with contractual requirements, managing finance transactions across multiple contract services, resolving payment queries along with performing bank reconciliations and investigating unreconciled items and variances. You will support the month-end reconciliation processes, calculate/process recharge transactions, assist with the review of recharge balances and work closely with operational managers to identify recoverable costs. You will enter purchase invoices into the accounting system, match invoices to purchase orders, process intercompany transactions with accurate VAT treatment, reconcile intercompany balances and provide holiday cover for payroll processes including payroll data entry and payroll reconciliations. You will support the Head of Finance and accounting team with process improvement projects and ad-hoc financial administration duties.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this hands-on & varied Accounting Technician position, you will have previous experience in a similar role, a strong understanding of purchase ledger, bank reconciliations and general accounting procedures. You will be used to processing high volumes of financial transactions, have a strong attention to detail, used to managing workloads to meet deadlines, with key communication skills to build both internal and external relationships. You will be adaptable to business needs, comfortable using your own initiative while being a team player. You will have key MS Excel skills and be trained in a range of financial systems. Experience within the property or housing sectors, multi-company or group structure environments, Xero systems experience and payroll processing knowledge would be advantageous but not essential.

What you'll get in return

This varied Accounting Technician role offers a salary between £30,000 - £33,000 per annum, dependable on experience, on a 12-month fixed-term contract, based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. A full-time position that can offer remote/office hybrid working if required, working within a close-knit accounting team.
