Proper practice roles in West Cornwall don't come up often, and this one gives you accounts, audit, tax and VAT all in one job. If you're studying, or recently qualified, and want to build a broad all-round grounding without heading up the A30, it's well worth a look.

ABOUT THE FIRM

My client is a growing practice in Penzance, part of a national accountancy group. The team looks after a really varied client base of sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and not-for-profit organisations, and works closely with its clients face to face as well as remotely.

THE ROLE

You'll work alongside the managers and partners across the full range of practice work. Much of it is accounts preparation, but you'll also get genuine audit experience, from planning and fieldwork through to completion, plus VAT, bookkeeping, personal and corporate tax, and company secretarial work. It's the kind of variety that makes you a much more rounded accountant.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Preparing statutory and management accounts for a mix of clients
• Working on audits, including testing and preparing working papers
• Preparing VAT returns in Xero, Sage and QuickBooks, and supporting clients with MTD
• Preparing self-assessment returns and helping with tax computations
• Handling confirmation statements and other Companies House filings
• Helping clients with their software, sometimes visiting them on site
• Picking up ad hoc projects, from business analysis to investigations

WHO THIS WILL SUIT

• Accountancy practice experience, with good accounts and bookkeeping knowledge
• Confident with Xero, Sage and QuickBooks
• A working understanding of VAT, MTD and audit procedures
• AAT qualified or studying ACA or ACCA would be ideal
• A full UK driving licence would be helpful for client visits
