The Opportunity An established and highly regarded construction business is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join its finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Working within a busy and supportive environment, you'll play a key role in the smooth running of the accounts function, supporting the commercial, procurement, project, and operational teams across a range of construction projects.
This position would suit someone with previous accounts payable experience, particularly within the construction sector, who enjoys working with suppliers, managing invoices, and building strong relationships across the supply chain.
The Role Reporting into the finance team, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and efficiently, and assisting with general finance administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing high volumes of supplier invoices.
- Matching invoices to purchase orders and supporting documentation.
- Investigating and resolving invoice discrepancies.
- Managing supplier accounts and maintaining accurate records.
- Reviewing supplier statements and reconciling balances.
- Responding to supplier queries via phone and email.
- Assisting with payment runs.
- Ensuring invoices are correctly coded and authorised.
- Liaising with project, operational and commercial teams.
- Monitoring outstanding invoices and resolving payment issues.
- Supporting month-end activities and reconciliations.
- Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Providing administrative support to the wider finance function.
- Building effective relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Supporting the wider supply chain with financial queries.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience processing supplier invoices.
- Strong reconciliation and accounts payable knowledge.
- Experience dealing directly with suppliers and resolving queries.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage workloads and work to deadlines.
- Proactive and professional approach.
- Previous experience within the construction industry.
- Experience working for a main contractor, subcontractor, or construction-related business.
- Experience using RedSky.
- Experience using SAP, Sage, or similar accounting software.
- Understanding of construction supply-chain processes.
