Debbie Burbage Recruitment are working with our Northampton based client to recruit an experienced Accounts Assistant with payroll experience to join their team.
This is a varied and hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys being involved across the finance function and taking ownership of their responsibilities. Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will have exposure to a good mix of day-to-day accounting, payroll, reconciliations and month-end activities.
It would suit someone who likes variety, enjoys being kept busy and is equally comfortable working independently as they are being part of a supportive team
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Finance Manager with month-end activities, financial reporting and the preparation of accounting information
- Completing regular bank and balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving any differences
- Processing and recording incoming and outgoing payments accurately using Xero
- Taking responsibility for the payroll process through Sage, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time
- Managing payroll deductions and completing the relevant HMRC submissions
- Raising invoices and ensuring financial information is accurately recorded
- Keeping accounting records, systems and financial data accurate and up to date
- Assisting with year-end requirements and providing information as needed
- Working closely with different departments across the business to resolve finance-related queries
- Liaising confidently with external customers, suppliers and other third parties
- Getting involved with additional finance and administrative activities as required by the business
The Candidate
We are looking for someone with a minimum of three years’ previous experience within an Accounts Assistant or similar finance role who has developed a good all-round understanding of accounting processes. You will ideally hold a minimum of AAT Level 3 or an equivalent qualification, together with either a payroll qualification or strong hands-on payroll experience.
You will be confident using Xero and Sage Payroll, with good Microsoft Excel skills and excellent attention to detail. The role requires someone who can organise and prioritise their own workload, work accurately to deadlines and use their initiative to resolve queries and keep things moving.
You will also be a genuine team player with strong communication skills and a friendly, professional approach, as you will be working with people across the business as well as external contacts. A positive, proactive attitude is important, along with a willingness to learn, develop and get involved in the wider finance function.
Remuneration
- £28,000 – circa £34,000 per annum depending on experience
- Monday to Friday 8.45am - 5.15pm (office based). They will also consider flexible working hours for the right person
- 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
