Role Purpose

We are looking for a proactive and organised Accounts Assistant to join our busy finance team. This is a varied role that offers exposure to all aspects of the finance function, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the department while working closely with colleagues across the wider business.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organised and confident managing multiple priorities. Previous experience within a busy accounts environment is essential.

Role Responsibilities

  • Allocate incoming customer payments and reconcile cash receipts accurately.
  • Manage credit control activities, including chasing outstanding debts and maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Monitor client credit limits, review account exposure and assist with forecasting.
  • Reconcile and process company credit card statements, ensuring expenditure is accurately recorded.
  • Prepare and produce intermediary financial reports for management.
  • Complete monthly CIS returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.
  • Prepare and process month-end accruals
  • Maintain the sales ledger, raising invoices, processing credit notes and resolving customer account queries.
  • Carry out compliance checks and support internal control procedures.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
  • Support the preparation of information required for external audits.
  • Offer day-to-day finance and administrative support to the wider accounts team.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar finance role
  • Strong working knowledge of sales ledger and credit control
  • Experience with cash allocations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with a professional and customer-focused approach
  • Experience of sage 50 accounts
