Make a real difference from the moment a home becomes available. As an Allocations & Assessment Officer, you’ll be at the heart of helping people access safe, affordable homes and build successful tenancies. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary lettings team, you’ll manage allocations and assessments from start to finish, ensuring empty homes are let quickly, compliantly and with care. You’ll use your judgement, customer focus and relationship-building skills to balance individual needs with business priorities, supporting Orbit’s commitment to creating thriving communities.

What you'll achieve

  • Take ownership of the end-to-end allocation and assessment process, helping homes move quickly from empty to occupied while reducing void periods and financial loss.
  • Carry out thoughtful, evidence-based customer assessments that support people into homes where they can build safe, sustainable and successful tenancies.
  • Create a positive customer experience by being a trusted point of contact for applicants, customers, colleagues and partner agencies throughout the lettings journey.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with local authorities and support organisations to help achieve positive housing outcomes for customers and communities.
  • Keep accurate records, work confidently within legislation and policy, and use your insight to support continuous improvement across lettings services.

What you'll bring

  • GCSEs, or equivalent, including English and Maths.
  • Experience delivering great customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interviewing skills, with the ability to build rapport.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence using IT systems and Microsoft Office to record information accurately.
  • Good judgement and problem-solving skills to assess information, risks and decisions.
  • Good knowledge of customer service standards in a customer-focused setting.
  • Understanding of housing allocations, sustainable tenancies, affordability and risk-based decisions.
  • Awareness of welfare benefits, vulnerabilities and support needs, or willingness to learn.
