SEN/ALN Teaching Assistant – September 2026

Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay: £465 - £550 weekly pay (depending on role)
Hours: School hours, Monday to Friday
Contract: September 2026, term-time only

Teaching Personnel is recruiting caring, patient and reliable SEN/ALN Teaching Assistants to work in specialist schools and additional learning needs provisions across Newport from September 2026.

This is a brilliant opportunity for anyone interested in teaching, psychology, care, therapy, youth work or pastoral support.

What you’ll be doing

You will work closely with pupils who may have autism, communication needs, physical disabilities, sensory needs or social and emotional difficulties.

Your day may include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support
  • Helping pupils access classroom activities
  • Encouraging communication, confidence and independence
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Using visual resources and alternative communication methods
  • Following individual learning and support plans
  • Supporting pupils during sensory activities and social times
  • Assisting with personal care where required

No two days are the same, but every day gives you the chance to make a positive impact.

⭐ Who we’re looking for

Previous school experience is helpful, but it is not essential.

  • Care or support work
  • Youth work
  • Childcare
  • Sports coaching
  • Mental health support
  • Psychology or education studies
  • Volunteering
  • Supporting a family member with additional needs

You should be patient, compassionate, adaptable and confident building positive relationships with young people.

✅ Requirements

We will support you through the registration process, but you must be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Willing to complete an Enhanced DBS check
  • Willing to register with the Education Workforce Council
  • Able to provide professional references
  • Committed to completing safeguarding and compliance training
