This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered.

The Opportunity

As an ALS Support Worker, you’ll provide personalised support to students with a range of additional learning needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Working one-to-one, with small groups and within the classroom, you’ll help students overcome barriers to learning, develop their independence and achieve their goals.

Working closely with teaching and support colleagues, you’ll adapt your approach to meet each student’s individual needs, helping them to engage with learning and get the most from their time at College. This could include supporting academic activities, adapting learning materials and, where required, providing personal care while maintaining the student’s dignity, choice and independence.

Just as importantly, you’ll provide encouragement and emotional and pastoral support, helping students to build confidence, resilience and independence. You’ll monitor progress, provide feedback and contribute to student reviews, including those relating to EHCPs.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, patient and genuinely committed to helping students succeed.

You’ll be approachable and understanding, with the ability to build positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues and parents or carers. You’ll understand that every learner is different and will be confident adapting your approach to provide the right balance of encouragement, guidance and practical support.

You’ll have experience of working with people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, vulnerable children or adults, or within a care setting. Alongside your experience, we’re looking for someone with a positive, proactive attitude who can respond calmly and flexibly to different situations.

Good organisational and communication skills will help you maintain accurate records, share relevant information with colleagues and contribute effectively to student reviews and EHCP processes.

You’ll be comfortable working independently when needed while also recognising the importance of being part of a wider team focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for our students.
