Application Operations Engineer

• Role: Application Operations Engineer
• Contract Duration: 12 Months Inside IR35 via Umbrella
• Location: Exeter

Responsible for supporting, managing, and maintaining single applications or full application services suites. Key tasks include monitoring, batch process management, and user/security administration. May also involve end-user computing tasks like technical troubleshooting, hardware maintenance, and collaborating with Incident or Problem Managers.

The OPV Team supports forecasting platforms for Operational Meteorologists. This role joins the OPV Vortex Support Team to support Vortex (introduced in 2025 to replace legacy systems) during its ongoing development and deployment. The primary focus is configuring and managing data products to ensure seamless usage.

• Configure Vortex products using template logic (Handlebars.js/Moustache.js) and layout languages (Typst).
• Collaborate with Product and Service Delivery Managers to onboard data products.
• Execute necessary product reconfigurations post-onboarding.
• Work collaboratively within the team.
• Manage Changes, Incidents, and Problems via ServiceNow.
• Contribute to a multi-disciplinary team supporting Vortex and its users.
• Assist with testing, verification, and feedback on Vortex system functionality.

• Configuration Management: Maintain secure application configurations and accurate documentation.
• Service Availability and Capacity Management: Oversee components to meet business requirements and KPIs.
• Change Management: Implement authorized change requests and follow control workflows under guidance.
• Continual Service Improvement: Identify process deficiencies and assist in optimizing efficiency and development enhancements.
• Incident Management: Identify, log, and accurately route incidents using gathered data.
• Ownership and Initiative: Take responsibility for unresolved issues until addressed, mitigated, or transferred.
• Problem Management: Investigate system and process issues, and support preventative actions and permanent fixes.
• Technical Specialism: Provide operational support and execute routine maintenance and administration.
• Technical Understanding: Develop high-level understanding of fundamental concepts and core subject matter.
• Testing: Execute specified test scripts under supervision and understand testing goals.

User Focus: Engage with users to gather needs, support aligned research, and utilize data to drive outcomes.
