The Role
The Apprentice HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Mechanic will work under the supervision of experienced mechanics to learn the skills necessary for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a range of commercial vehicles. This role is designed for individuals starting their career in the automotive or transport industries, and it provides on-the-job training in addition to formal educational coursework.
Responsibilities
- General housekeeping of workspace’s, keeping to the required plant standard.
- Carry out tasks set daily by workshop manager, to ensure all planned and unplanned works are completed within required timelines.
- Ensure the completion of all relevant paperwork such as; Job Cards, part requests, and inspection reports ensuring all information is accurate, and submitted daily by 5pm.
- Ensure daily operations of Doocey Group Plant and Fleet Department is providing services to match customer service requirement.
- Ensure all plant and vehicle works to be completed is in line with Doocey Group requirements, and within required Plant SLA’s.
- Ensure all vehicles and plant equipment is fit for purpose, ensuring excellent presentation, and branding.
- Ensure that M & A Doocey Plant Hire Ltd is run in a professional and efficient manner.
- Identify and propose ideas and opportunities within the Company to maximise profitability.
- Ensuring unplanned works are dealt with in efficient manner by prioritising as required for the provision of a 24-hour callout service.
- Ensuring personal course work is kept up to date, accurate and you are on track for course completion date.
- Submit own timesheet by 9am every Monday, ensuring information input it correct and accurate, to ensure pay is correct.
- When competent participate in a call out rota, to ensure an engineer is always available. This will be on a rolling rota, completing one week at a time (Monday – Sunday).
- Complete ongoing learning and development towards full HGV Mechanic role.
- When required, attend various work sites to support workshop engineers.
- Attend mandatory training courses as defined within the company training matrix.
- Keep up to date with legislation and record ‘Continued Professional Development’ (CPD).
Technical Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience within same role, or similar within the civil engineering sector.
- Self-driven, results-oriented, with a ‘can do’ attitude without compromising safety and/or compliance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including employees, management, regulatory agencies, and the community.
- Problem-Solving Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication Skills
- Confident, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with managers at all levels within a business.

Qualifications & Training
- A comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- GCSE’s Grade 9-4 or equivalent.
