Job Description
Throughout your apprenticeship journey, you will learn through a blend of planned face-to-face learning sessions, remote learning activities, and practical workplace experience to work towards your apprenticeship qualification.
Your non-study days will be spent applying your learning in the workplace under expert guidance and supervision, gaining valuable experience across mechanical, electrical, and building fabric maintenance. You will support planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, inspections, and facilities management activities while developing the practical skills needed for a successful career in property maintenance engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across mechanical, electrical, and building services systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Support reactive maintenance, basic fault finding, and repairs under the supervision of qualified engineers.
- Help maintain building services, including HVAC, lighting, water systems, pumps, motors, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Assist with minor building fabric repairs, including doors, ceilings, flooring, fixtures, and general property maintenance.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental, and permit-to-work procedures, ensuring work areas remain safe, tidy, and compliant.
- Complete maintenance records, job sheets, CAFM updates, and compliance documentation accurately.
- Support sustainability initiatives by promoting energy-efficient working practices and identifying opportunities to improve building performance.
- Attend all apprenticeship training sessions while developing technical knowledge and practical skills in building services and facilities maintenance.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), typically including Maths, English, and Science, or Functional Skills Level 2.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely in commercial building or live-site environments.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, engineers, customers, and building occupants.
- Enthusiasm for practical problem-solving and learning new technical skills.
- Demonstrates resilience under pressure and adapts to changing priorities.
- Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
- Commitment to delivering high standards of customer service and safe working practices.
Training & Development
Throughout your two-year apprenticeship journey, you will learn through a blend of planned face-to-face learning sessions, remote learning activities, and practical workplace experience to develop the knowledge and skills required for your qualification.
Your non-study days will be spent putting your new skills into practice under expert guidance and supervision within a real working environment, supporting experienced engineers across a broad range of building services and property maintenance activities.
During your apprenticeship, you will work towards recognised building services and property maintenance qualifications while developing knowledge of:
- Mechanical and electrical building services systems
- HVAC and building controls technologies
- Building regulations and industry standards
- Health, safety, and environmental compliance
- Facilities management best practices
