Arable Techncial Trials Officer

MorePeople

Are you working in agriculture and looking for a role where you can build your technical knowledge, get plenty of time out in the field and develop your career within the arable sector?

We're working with a well-established name in the agricultural industry who are looking for an Arable Technical Trials Officer to join their team.

This could suit someone who already has experience in arable trials, agronomy, crop production or agricultural research, but equally, it could be a great opportunity for someone relatively early in their career who has the right agricultural background and is keen to learn.

Working alongside the Technical Manager, you'll be involved in a real mix of trials, variety evaluation, demonstration farms, technical information and industry events.

What will you be doing?

You'll be supporting the delivery of arable trials and demonstration activity across cereals, oilseed rape, pulses and other crops, including:

  • Helping to organise and set up trials, including field plans, seed, protocols and crop records
  • Collecting and managing trial data and field observations
  • Monitoring crops throughout the growing season and helping assess variety performance
  • Supporting the interpretation of trial results and turning the data into useful, practical information
  • Producing technical sheets, trial summaries, briefing notes and other technical content
  • Supporting demo farms, crop walks, open days, shows and industry events
  • Working with the marketing, sales and product teams to provide accurate technical information
  • Feeding back observations from trials and demonstration sites to the wider business
  • Working alongside breeding and product development teams to help inform future variety development
  • Supporting technical briefings and training for internal teams

There's a good balance between being out in the field, working with data and getting involved with the commercial side of the business, so it's a varied role rather than purely office or field based.

What are we looking for?

You'll ideally have:

  • A background in agriculture, agronomy, crop production, plant science, field trials or a similar area
  • An interest in UK arable farming and crop performance
  • Some practical experience of working with crops, trials or on farm
  • Good attention to detail and confidence working with data
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build relationships with people across different parts of the business
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Good IT skills, particularly with spreadsheets and data
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to trial sites and events across the UK

Experience with cereals, oilseed rape, pulses, variety evaluation or Recommended List work would be useful, but isn't essential.

PA1, PA6, BASIS or FACTS would also be advantageous, but again, they're not essential.

Why this role?

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop their career within the technical side of the arable industry.

You'll get exposure to trials, variety performance, breeding, product development, marketing and commercial activity, while working closely with an experienced technical team.

If you're someone who enjoys being out on farm, is naturally curious about crop performance and wants to build a career in the arable sector, I'd be keen to hear from you.
