Area Sales Engineer – Process Cooling

An established engineering business with over 30 years' experience in the process cooling industry is seeking an experienced and motivated Area Sales Engineer to join its growing Sales Engineering team.

The company specialises in the design, supply, and installation of industrial temperature control and process cooling solutions across a wide range of sectors, including plastics, manufacturing, medical, food and beverage, and general industrial applications. Customers include end-user manufacturers, OEMs, facilities management providers, and mechanical and electrical contractors throughout the UK, with a growing international customer base.

The business prides itself on delivering technically and commercially tailored solutions that meet customers' operational requirements. Projects range from small equipment supply packages of approximately £3,000 through to complex turnkey installations exceeding £1 million, including multi-month installation programmes.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a technically minded sales professional with experience in process cooling or a closely related engineering sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new business, managing existing customer relationships, and driving sales growth across the Southern England region.

Candidates with relevant industry experience will be expected to quickly take ownership of opportunities, while those with transferable engineering knowledge will receive comprehensive product and systems training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a regional sales strategy to achieve business growth.
  • Generate new business opportunities through prospecting and networking.
  • Manage company-generated enquiries from initial contact through to order placement.
  • Conduct customer meetings and technical discussions.
  • Carry out site surveys and assess customer requirements.
  • Design appropriate process cooling solutions.
  • Prepare system layouts and technical drawings where required.
  • Produce detailed quotations including system design, commercial proposals, ROI calculations, and contract documentation.
  • Present proposals to customers and negotiate orders.
  • Manage projects through to successful handover.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in technical sales within process cooling, HVAC, mechanical engineering, industrial equipment, or a related sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify customer needs and deliver value-based solutions.
  • Good technical understanding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to manage a sales territory independently.
  • A proactive approach to business development and account management.
  • Full UK driving licence.
