About the Opportunity
An established and growing engineering technology business is seeking an experienced Area Sales Manager to join its commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven sales professional with experience selling capital equipment into manufacturing and industrial markets.
The successful candidate will manage an established sales territory, develop long-term customer relationships, and identify new business opportunities across a portfolio of advanced industrial equipment and technical solutions. Comprehensive product training and ongoing support will be provided.
Working remotely from a home office and reporting to the Head of Sales, you will be responsible for driving sales growth while delivering exceptional customer service throughout the sales process.
The Role
You will be responsible for promoting and selling a range of high-value industrial equipment and engineered solutions, including:
Industrial gas generation and processing systems
Gas mixing, filtration, and monitoring equipment
Advanced manufacturing machinery
New and refurbished capital equipment
Typical project values range from £5,000 to £450,000, requiring a consultative sales approach and the ability to manage opportunities from initial enquiry through to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow existing customer accounts across your designated territory.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities within manufacturing and industrial sectors.
- Develop long-term customer relationships through a consultative sales approach.
- Coordinate and host customer equipment demonstrations.
- Represent the company at selected industry exhibitions and networking events.
- Provide technical guidance and commercially focused solutions to prospective customers.
- Prepare quotations, proposals, sales orders, and supporting documentation.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and successfully close sales opportunities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven success in selling capital equipment or technical engineering solutions.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation and closing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently while effectively managing a sales territory.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Willingness to travel throughout the assigned region, including occasional overnight stays.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
Experience within one or more of the following industries would be advantageous:
- Industrial machinery
- Manufacturing technology
- Laser cutting
Additional desirable qualifications include:
- Five or more years' experience in capital equipment sales.
- Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, degree, or equivalent).
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
- Experience using LinkedIn and other digital tools to support business development.
