Job Title: Machine Operator & Assembly Operative

Location: Rochdale

Department: Production / Manufacturing

Reports To: Production Supervisor / Team Leader

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 6:00am to 2:30pm
  • Friday: 6:00am to 11:30am
  • Total Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Job Purpose

To operate manufacturing machinery and assemble ironing boards and air dryers in a safe, efficient, and quality-focused environment. The role involves ensuring production targets are met, maintaining high product standards, and supporting continuous improvement within the production process.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation

  • Set up, operate, and monitor production machinery used in the manufacture of ironing boards and air dryers.
  • Ensure machines are running efficiently and safely.
  • Conduct routine machine checks and report any faults or maintenance requirements.
  • Follow production schedules and meet daily output targets.
  • Maintain accurate production records where required.

Assembly Work

  • Assemble components and finished products according to specifications and work instructions.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment safely and effectively.
  • Inspect parts and finished products to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Package completed products ready for dispatch.
  • Assist with product rework when required.

Quality & Safety

  • Follow all company health and safety procedures.
  • Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report defects, hazards, or quality issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area in accordance with housekeeping standards.
  • Support quality control processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

General Duties

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Assist in other production areas as required.
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required by management.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or production environment.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and quality standards.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

Desirable

  • Experience operating manufacturing machinery.
  • Experience within metalwork, appliance manufacturing, or assembly production.
