Assistant Accountant

We're looking for an Assistant Accountant to join a busy construction business in the Teesside area.  This is a full-time, permanent role as has been created to support the existing Accountant with a busy work load.

The Role

Reporting to the Accountant, you'll be involved in all aspects of the month-end process, ensuring financial information is accurate and reconciled.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts and maintaining key accounting schedules.
• Maintaining the fixed asset register and hire purchase schedules, ensuring acquisitions and disposals are accurately recorded and fully supported.
• Processing month-end journals, including prepayments, accruals, PAYE postings and suspense account adjustments.
• Setting up new construction contracts within the contract costing system following tender approval.
• Processing cash book transactions and completing monthly bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
• Producing monthly overhead analysis to support budgeting, forecasting and commercial decision-making.
• Preparing PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) analysis in line with HMRC requirements.
• Liaising with operational and commercial teams to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.

The Person

We're looking for someone who has:

• Previous experience in a finance or management accounting role.
• Experience supporting the production of monthly management accounts.
• Strong reconciliation and journal posting experience.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• The ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to work closely with colleagues across the business.

Experience within the construction sector or using contract costing systems would be advantageous but is not essential.

Remuneration
Negotiable, depending upon experience.
