Pertemps are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established organisation based in Glasgow for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their Finance & Business Team on an interim basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant or an experienced finance professional who is qualified by experience to play a key role in supporting the organisation during a period of increased demand. Offering a mainly remote working arrangement with just one day per month in the Glasgow office, this role provides flexibility alongside meaningful and varied responsibilities.

The Role

Reporting into the Finance Lead, you will provide additional capacity to the finance function by maintaining robust financial controls, producing accurate management information and supporting the organisation's financial governance. You will be responsible for ensuring day-to-day financial processes run efficiently while delivering insightful reporting to support effective decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records through effective ledger management, invoice and expense processing, account reconciliations and quarter-end close activities.

  • Ensure strong financial controls are in place, reviewing and improving processes to maintain compliance and audit readiness.

  • Monitor cash flow and key balance sheet accounts, managing accounts payable and receivable while reconciling control accounts.

  • Prepare timely and accurate management accounts, including budget versus actual variance analysis and commentary for senior stakeholders.

  • Support the preparation of year-end accounts and external audit requirements, including statutory accounts and regulatory submissions.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, financial regulations and organisational policies.

  • Identify financial risks, investigate discrepancies and recommend improvements to internal controls and financial processes.

  • Produce clear financial reports and provide guidance to managers and non-financial stakeholders to support informed decision-making.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or Management Accountant role.

  • Strong experience preparing management accounts, reconciliations and financial analysis.

  • Excellent knowledge of financial controls and accounting best practice.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.

  • A proactive approach with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Experience

Experience using the following systems would be advantageous:

  • Sage 50

  • AutoEntry

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Approvals, Lists and Visio

  • Experience of digital finance systems, reporting tools and process improvement initiatives
