A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a growing business based in the Newcastle area on a temp-to-perm basis. This is a varied and hands-on role that would suit an experienced account professional looking to join a fast-paced environment with strong long-term prospects. Candidates with previous experience within manufacturing or construction sectors will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.
Your new role
As Assistant Accountant, you will support the finance team across a broad range of accounting and financial administration duties. You will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly reporting, and working closely with operational teams to ensure financial information is recorded accurately and efficiently.Key responsibilities will include:
- Processing supplier invoices and ensuring accurate coding of costs.
- Raising and posting sales invoices.
- Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers.
- Managing employee expenses and company credit card transactions.
- Supporting inventory and stock accounting processes.
- Assisting with stock reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
- Performing bank reconciliations and allocating payments and receipts.
- Supporting cash flow reporting activities.
- Assisting with month-end processes, including accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
- Preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Supporting gross margin and cost analysis.
- Working closely with operational teams to monitor costs and improve financial reporting.
- Assisting with VAT returns, audits, and compliance activities.
- Supporting payroll administration, including payroll processing and reconciliations.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in an accounts or finance position.
- A strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Excellent Excel skills, including reconciliations, pivot tables, and lookups.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across teams.
- A proactive and organised approach to work.
Ideally, you will have experience working in a manufacturing or construction environment. Experience with ERP systems and exposure to stock or cost accounting would be highly advantageous. Candidates studying or qualified within AAT, ACCA, or CIMA will also be of interest.
