Assistant Accountant

Our client, a leading diversified business group specialising in commercial vehicles, logistics, leasing, finance, fleet support, business services, and strategic investment, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Accountant at their Avonmouth head office. This is a well-regarded role designed for individuals with relevant finance experience and ambition to develop within a dynamic environment. The Assistant Accountant will be integral to the central finance team, supporting two subsidiary companies—a logistics solutions provider and a commercial vehicle dealer group.

  • Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 per annum, dependent on experience
  • 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible scheduling between 8:00am-6:00pm

Duties of the Assistant Accountant:
  • Conduct daily bank postings, purchase ledger processing, and account reconciliations
  • Support payroll submissions
  • Prepare management accounts and monthly reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end closing activities and management reporting
  • Coordinate warranty processes and manage customer account activity
  • Process monthly lease and rental invoices
  • Support credit control functions and report on departmental performance
  • Assist the Financial Controller with finance projects and reporting improvements
  • Undertake general administrative tasks as required
Requirements of the Assistant Accountant:
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 in Maths and English
  • A Level or similar accountancy qualification preferred but not essential
  • Prior experience within a finance or accounts environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Xero accounting software advantageous but not necessary; experience with similar software acceptable
  • Organised, proactive, and capable of managing workloads independently
  • Confident, resilient team player with excellent communication skills
