Assistant Buyer - Construction

EA Associates are working with an established Construction and Civils contractor based in Chelmsford that is looking to appoint an Assistant Buyer.

The business delivers a range of construction and civil engineering projects across Essex, London and the surrounding areas. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking for someone with around three to five years’ buying experience to join their established procurement team.

Working alongside experienced Buyers and wider commercial staff, you will support the procurement of materials, plant and subcontract services across multiple live projects.

The Role

• Procuring materials, plant and subcontract services across live projects
• Obtaining and comparing supplier quotations
• Negotiating prices, terms and delivery schedules
• Placing purchase orders and monitoring deliveries
• Working closely with suppliers, site teams and commercial staff
• Supporting the wider procurement team across multiple projects
• Resolving supply, pricing and delivery issues
• Maintaining accurate procurement records and supplier information
• Helping ensure sites receive the right materials at the right time

The Candidate

• Around three to five years’ experience within a construction buying role
• Experience within civils, infrastructure, groundworks or general construction
• Strong supplier negotiation and communication skills
• Commercially aware with a good understanding of construction materials and plant
• Organised and comfortable managing several requirements at once
• Confident working as part of an established procurement team
• Based within a reasonable commute of Chelmsford
