We’re supporting a specialist exempt-accommodation provider to recruit an exceptional Assistant Director of Finance. This is a pivotal role for an organisation delivering vital housing and support to vulnerable people, and they’re seeking a finance leader who can combine strategic insight with hands-on operational control.

The Opportunity

As Assistant Director of Finance, you’ll provide operational financial leadership across the organisation while supporting the Finance Director and CEO with long-term financial strategy. You’ll ensure robust financial management, regulatory compliance, and value for money across all areas of finance.

This role blends strategic thinking with practical oversight - ideal for someone who enjoys both steering the bigger picture and ensuring day-to-day excellence.

Key Responsibilities

· Drive delivery of the financial strategy and contribute to 5-year business planning

· Lead monthly management accounts, reporting, cashflow and KPI analysis

· Provide clear financial insight and commentary to senior leadership and the Board

· Oversee Housing Benefit income, reconciliations and provider payments

· Maintain strong relationships with Home Providers and local authorities

· Ensure robust internal controls, governance and regulatory compliance

· Support annual audit, statutory accounts and regulatory returns (FFR, SDR etc.)

· Lead the annual budgeting cycle and maintain financial models

· Oversee transactional finance including payroll, banking and payments

· Act as the finance lead for external partners and internal teams

· Develop and support a high-performing finance team

· Lead on financial policies, SOPs and continuous improvement

About You

Essential:

· Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)

· Experience in the not-for-profit sector

· Strong financial reporting, planning and modelling capability

· Excellent Excel skills and experience with Sage

· Confident communicator able to advise senior leaders and Boards
