Assistant Document Controller / Administrator

Location: North East
Salary: £28,000 – £35,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established and growing main contractor that is expanding its North East operation and is looking to appoint an Assistant Document Controller / Administrator to join their North East office.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with existing construction administration experience who is looking to develop their career within Document Control.

The role will be a varied position, combining Document Control, general administration and reception duties, providing the successful candidate with valuable exposure to the wider construction environment and a clear opportunity to progress into a fully-fledged Document Controller position.

The Role

Working as part of the regional office team, you will provide day-to-day administrative and document control support to the wider construction and project teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the management and distribution of project documentation
  • Maintaining accurate document registers and filing systems
  • Uploading, issuing and tracking project documentation
  • Supporting the wider project team with document control processes
  • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • General office administration and data entry
  • Assisting with reports, spreadsheets and project records
  • Answering incoming calls and dealing with general enquiries
  • Meeting and greeting visitors to the office
  • Managing reception and maintaining a professional front-of-house environment
  • Supporting the wider office team with ad-hoc administrative requirements

As your experience develops, you will be given greater responsibility across the Document Control function, with the opportunity to progress into a dedicated Document Controller position.

About You

We are ideally looking for someone who already has experience working within a construction company or construction-related environment.

You don't necessarily need to have extensive Document Control experience. We're more interested in someone who is organised, proactive and keen to build a long-term career within the construction industry.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous administration experience, ideally within construction
  • An understanding of the construction environment
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills
  • A professional and approachable manner
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
  • A willingness to learn and develop
  • A positive, team-focused attitude

Previous experience using construction document management systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
