Scope of the role
- As an Assistant Electrical Project Manager, you’ll support the delivery of HV projects (£5m–£50m) from site through to completion, working closely with the Project Manager and wider project team.
- This is a delivery-focused role with a strong electrical bias, ideal for someone who understands, or is looking to develop their understanding of, how substations and HV works are actually built and delivered on site.
- You’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers, Site Managers and Supervisors, gaining responsibility across key areas of project delivery. As your experience and capability develop, you’ll have a clear path towards taking greater ownership of projects and progressing into a Project Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager in leading HV infrastructure projects from mobilisation through to completion
- Assist with delivering projects safely, on programme, and within budget
- Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day management of project delivery
- Monitor progress on site and highlight issues, risks and potential delays
- Assist with coordinating project activities across different workstreams
- Take responsibility for delegated areas of project delivery and ensure they are completed effectively
- Support the delivery of substation and electrical installation works
- Develop a strong understanding of what “good” looks like in HV delivery
- Assist with coordination between design, installation, testing and commissioning
- Work closely with the Project Manager and site teams to ensure electrical works are delivered to the required standards
- Develop your technical understanding of HV infrastructure and electrical installation
- Identify and raise technical or delivery issues where appropriate
Background
We’re looking for someone with:
- Experience working within electrical, HV, substation or infrastructure projects
- Some experience supporting the delivery of construction or engineering projects
- An understanding of electrical installation and/or HV works
- Experience working with site teams and subcontractors
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Confidence working with clients, colleagues and project stakeholders
- A hands-on, delivery-focused mindset
- The ability to take responsibility and work proactively
- A willingness to learn and develop towards a Project Manager position
- Previous experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Electrical Engineer or similar would be advantageous.
- Experience within HV, substations or electrical infrastructure would be highly desirable.
