THE ROLE: ASSISTANT ESTIMATOR

THE COMPANY:

I am currently recruiting on behalf of a highly respected Tier 1 Main Contractor with an outstanding reputation across the South Coast. The business has built a strong name for delivering high-quality construction projects, from medium-sized developments through to some of the region's largest and most recognisable schemes, with current project values reaching up to £60 million.

With a regional turnover in excess of £120 million, they have the financial strength and project pipeline of a major contractor, while retaining the close-knit culture and strong team environment that has resulted in exceptionally low staff turnover across the region.

Their success is built around the quality of their people, and they have developed one of the strongest training and career development programmes in the UK construction industry. Internal promotion is actively encouraged, with many senior members of the business having progressed through the organisation themselves.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Due to a combination of an upcoming retirement and several internal promotions, an excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Estimator to join their established pre-construction team.

This is an opportunity to join a business at an exciting point in its growth, working alongside an experienced estimating team and gaining exposure to a diverse range of projects.

The role would suit an Assistant Estimator currently working for a main contractor who is ready to take the next step in their career, or an Estimator working for a specialist contractor who is looking to make the move into main contracting.

Importantly, this is not simply a role to fill a vacancy. The company is looking for someone they can invest in and develop over the long term, with a clear pathway towards becoming a fully-fledged Estimator and progressing further within the business.

THE ROLE:

Working as part of the estimating team, you will be involved in the preparation of tenders and estimates across a variety of construction projects. You will work closely with the wider commercial and pre-construction teams, gaining valuable experience across the full estimating process.

You will have the opportunity to:

• Assist with the preparation of tenders and detailed estimates.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Obtain and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Assist with take-offs, pricing and cost analysis.
• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and the wider project team.
• Develop your understanding of construction costs and commercial risk.
• Work towards taking responsibility for your own tenders as your experience develops.

THE CANDIDATE

The company is open to candidates from a number of backgrounds. You may currently be:

• An Assistant Estimator within a main contractor looking to progress.
• An Estimator with a specialist subcontractor looking to move into main contracting.
• A construction professional with relevant commercial experience who is looking to develop a career in estimating.

You will ideally have experience within the construction industry and a genuine desire to develop your estimating career. More importantly, you will need to be driven, commercially aware and keen to learn.
