About the Business
A fantastic opportunity to join a global services business based in Birmingham as an Assistant Financial Accountant. Main Duties:
As an Assistant Financial Accountant, your main duties include:
- Supporting the month-end close process, preparing balance sheet reconciliations and helping to identify and resolve discrepancies using the team’s dedicated close software
- Helping to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, ensuring balance sheet controls are properly applied, reviewed and signed off
- Assisting the Financial Reporting team with delivery of annual financial statements and monthly Group reporting requirements
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and completing monthly reconciliations between the general ledger and fixed asset records
- Working alongside CAPEX owners to prepare capital expenditure budgets and depreciation forecasts, along with monthly variance analysis
- Contributing to an ongoing lease accounting transition project, including data analysis, implementing accounting adjustments and embedding new processes into everyday practice
- Partnering with financial and non-financial stakeholders across the business, providing analysis and insight to support commercial decision-making
- Identifying opportunities to streamline processes and increase automation across the finance function
- Helping to monitor and strengthen financial controls, reducing risk and maintaining compliance
- Supporting the external audit process, preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries
- Getting involved in ad hoc projects, including accounting for capital projects and other cross-team initiatives
Location / Office / Culture
The role is hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home, based at the company’s Birmingham office. You’ll join a busy, collaborative finance function with genuine support for professional development and study, and plenty of exposure to different areas of the business.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Actively studying towards ACCA or CIMA
- Good technical knowledge of accounting standards, which is essential for this role
- Fixed asset experience is desirable, but not essential
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable explaining financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders
- An adaptable, proactive approach with a solutions-focused mindset
