Assistant IT Manager in Bolton, Greater Manchester

Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant IT Manager to join a growing Multi-Academy Trust supporting six primary schools across Bolton, Bury and Halifax.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school-based IT professional looking to take the next step in their career and develop their leadership responsibilities while making a real difference to the technology provision across a group of primary schools.

The successful candidate will work closely with the IT Manager to oversee the day-to-day delivery of IT services across multiple primary school sites. The role combines hands-on technical support with leadership and infrastructure responsibilities, including supporting IT Technicians, maintaining systems and networks, troubleshooting issues and contributing to IT projects and developments across the Trust.

You will also play an important role in supporting and maintaining the Trust's Bromcom Management Information System (MIS), including system administration, updates, troubleshooting and user support.

• Support the delivery of effective IT services across six primary schools.
• Provide hands-on technical support to staff and pupils.
• Maintain and support Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Support network infrastructure, including switches, Wi-Fi and connectivity.
• Provide administration and support for the Bromcom MIS.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network and connectivity issues.
• Assist with IT projects, system upgrades and technology rollouts.
• Support, mentor and provide guidance to on-site IT support staff.
• Help ensure IT systems are secure, reliable and compliant across all school sites.
• Work closely with the IT Manager to identify and implement improvements to the Trust's IT provision.
• Prioritise and manage support requests effectively across multiple locations.

We are looking for an experienced IT professional who has previously worked in a school or education environment and understands the unique IT requirements of supporting staff and pupils.

You will ideally have:

• Mandatory: Previous school-based IT support/infrastructure experience.
• Experience supporting Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
• Good networking knowledge, including switches, Wi-Fi and TCP/IP.
• Experience troubleshooting a wide range of hardware, software and network issues.
• Knowledge or experience of Bromcom MIS is desirable.
• Previous experience leading, supervising or mentoring IT support staff.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organisational and troubleshooting abilities.
• The ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively across multiple school sites.
• A proactive approach with the ability to work independently as well as part of a wider IT team.
• A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle, as regular travel between school sites is required.

The Trust is open to candidates who can regularly travel between the Bolton and Bury sites and support the Halifax occasionally.
