About the Business
A great opportunity to join a well-established accountancy and business advisory firm based in Birmingham with hybrid working as an Assistant Management Accountant. The role sits within a supportive finance team and offers genuine exposure across the full finance function, from day-to-day transactional processing through to reporting, reconciliations, and wider group support.
Main Duties:
As an Assistant Management Accountant, your main duties include:
- Supporting month-end and year-end processes, including posting journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Preparing weekly cash flow figures for submission to the wider group
- Producing WIP reporting for review by fee earners
- Assisting with the preparation of the monthly management information pack
- Managing supplier payments and customer receipts, including direct debit administration and payment allocation
- Completing bank reconciliations and posting cashbook entries
- Maintaining monthly balance sheet control account reconciliations
- Monitoring aged debt and producing reports to support review meetings
- Processing employee expenses in line with company policy, ensuring documentation is properly retained
- Supporting VAT return preparation for group submission and maintaining records in line with HMRC requirements
- Assisting with payroll administration, including checking data and liaising with relevant teams
- Providing wider support to the group finance team, including managing shared finance inboxes
Location / Office / Culture
The role is based in Birmingham, within a friendly and close-knit finance team. You’ll gain broad exposure across the finance function, working closely with colleagues, suppliers, and customers, while developing your skills in a supportive, team-focused environment.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or administrative role is desirable
- A good understanding of basic accounting principles, ledgers, and reconciliations
- Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with Sage Intacct is advantageous
- The ability to prioritise a varied workload and manage multiple deadlines
- Clear, professional communication skills with colleagues, suppliers, and customers
- Discretion and integrity when handling confidential financial information
- AAT qualified, or working towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or another relevant accounting qualification, is desirable
