Assistant Manager

Bright Selection Ltd

Bright Selection is delighted to be recruiting an Assistant Manager for a high-quality retirement living community in Surrey.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced care, retirement living or hospitality professional looking to take the next step in their management career. You will work closely with an established General Manager, supporting the day-to-day running of a modern community and helping to create an engaging, welcoming and well-run environment for residents.

This is not a hands-on care role. However, we are particularly interested in candidates with an understanding of older people's care and support needs, who can recognise when residents may require additional assistance and work effectively with families and external care providers.

A major focus of the position will be people leadership. You will be a visible and approachable presence for the team, helping to bring colleagues together, recognise great performance and ensure employees feel engaged, valued and supported.

The Role

Working as deputy to the General Manager, you will:

Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the community
Lead, motivate and support front of house, housekeeping and wider operational teams
Build positive relationships with residents, relatives and external professionals
Promote residents' independence, dignity and wellbeing
Recognise changes in residents' needs and help coordinate appropriate additional support
Support resident events and activities, helping to create an active and inclusive community
Assist with financial management, budgets and rent control
Support sales activity, including prospective resident tours and community outreach
Oversee Health & Safety, risk assessments and operational compliance
Coordinate maintenance and ensure consistently high standards across the building
Deputise for the General Manager when required

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and people-focused manager who enjoys being visible, building relationships and creating a positive team culture.

You will ideally have:
Management or supervisory experience within care, senior living, retirement living or a high-quality hospitality environment
A good understanding of older people's needs, safeguarding and resident wellbeing
Experience leading and developing teams
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
A proactive, hands-on approach to operational management
Experience of budgets and financial management
An understanding of Health & Safety and risk assessments
The confidence to support sales, tours and resident engagement
Flexibility to work across the needs of a seven-day operation

Above all, you will be someone who can bring people together – supporting colleagues, recognising their contribution and helping to create a positive culture for both residents and the team.

Hours & Package
Salary: £34,000 – £36,000 per annum
The role is based on 7.5-hour shifts between 8am and 8pm.
You will work every other weekend, with two days off during the week.

Benefits include:
28 days' annual leave including bank holidays, increasing with length of service
Free lunch whilst at work
Enhanced maternity and paternity package
Excellent opportunities for career progression, including a pathway towards General Manager roles

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative and growing senior living organisation where resident experience and community are at the heart of the service.
