We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing civil engineering team based in Somerset. The Role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing project costs, maintaining financial control, and ensuring value for money throughout the project lifecycle. Working alongside Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Clients, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience across a range of civil engineering schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of project budgets and cost forecasts
  • Support the administration of NEC (JCT beneficial) contracts and subcontractor accounts
  • Assist in preparing valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential commercial risks and opportunities
  • Produce accurate cost reports and financial information
  • Support procurement and tendering activities
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and commercial procedures
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation
  • Liaise with site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors

Requirements

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor role or a graduate position within civil engineering or construction
  • Experience working on civil engineering projects such as highways, infrastructure, drainage, or utilities is desirable
  • Basic understanding of NEC contracts (JCT knowledge beneficial)
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or working towards)
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Full UK driving licence
